Caring For Orchids

There are literally thousands of different types of orchids, over 25,000 in fact. Orchids are classified depending on their water requirements. Orchids that need a moist environment all year long are;

• Paphiopedilum
• Cymbidium
• Odontoglossum need a moist environment all year long.

Orchids that only need water when they are actively growing are;

• Cattelya
• Oncidium
• Dendrobium

The Oncidium Intergenerics is one of the favourites for beginners which bloom twice per year. Paphiopedilum Orchids (Venus Slipper) Also adjustable to different humidity levels, there are a couple of varieties within this group, ones that have one flower on each stem and those that have lots of blooms which can be up to 3 months. Whilst these are some of the easier varieties to grow it’s important that you do learn some of the basics of orchid care such as light, temperature, humidity, watering and air circulation. Each variety of orchid has different needs so if you follow the right guidelines, this will allow your plants to thrive to be healthy, beautiful plants.
