On this site, you can discover everything you need to know about the secrets to the success of growing healthy orchids and find out what you need to know about how to look after orchids. They can be grown in your garden, in a greenhouse or inside so if you haven’t started already, even beginners can experience the joys of cultivating these wonderful tropical plants just by adopting some easy techniques.

The orchid family includes between 20,000 to 30,000 species and there are more than 70,000 hybrids or cultivars. Asia has the most popular and largest number of orchids. You will find that South America is also rich in wild orchids. Some orchid species may bloom twice or three times a year, while few others bloom annually. These blooms often last for a month to 6 or even 8 weeks. Depending on the type of species, these exotic plants do vary in size, color, shape, and scent. They are divided into two different basic growth types, you will find that the monopodial grows in the form of a central stem from the tip whilst the sympodial has a rootstock and grows into a stem to produce flowers. The Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilum are absolutely ideal for the beginner. It is easy to achieve wonderful blooms with these plants on any windowsill as neither requires an awful lot of light and both can adapt to almost all levels of humidity.

As the orchid plant is native to tropical climates, it could be that you may face problems while planting them in colder regions. However, problems can be overcome, if you understand their basic growth requirements. Orchids bloom regularly for years in proper climatic conditions so if you are new to this hobby, you’ll find that it really is going to be very rewarding and deeply satisfying. With a beauty unmatched in nature and literally countless possibilities in blending these species, it’s easy to see why a lot of gardeners and horticulturists have become addicted, in a manner of speaking, with taking care of orchids.

Bluish-green leaves usually point to insufficient light.

If there is not enough light and if nothing is done to remedy the problem, there is a big chance that the orchid will not be able to bloom properly during the growth season.

This problem (bluish-green leaves) is more common in indoor orchids than outdoor orchids
